1. What is a deposit account?

A deposit account is an account where customers can safely keep their money with the bank and earn interest (depending on the type of account).

2. What types of deposit accounts are available in BRAC Bank?

• Savings Account – for individuals to save money and earn interest.

• Current Account – for businesses and frequent transactions (usually no interest).

• Fixed Deposit (FD) – money kept for a fixed term with higher interest.

• Deposit Premium Scheme (DPS) – fixed monthly savings for a set period.

3. Who can open a deposit account?

Any individual can open an account singly or jointly, subject to the fulfilment of KYC (Know Your Customer) requirements. Minors can also open an account with a legal guardian.

4. How can I open an account?

Accounts can be opened through a digital account opening platform (e-KYC) or manually (hardcopy).

5. What are the available savings accounts?

Depending on the age, gender, profession, income, and segment, we offer multiple savings accounts.

6. Which documents are required to open a deposit account?

• Valid photo ID of the applicant and the nominee (NID, Passport, Birth Certificate, etc.)

• Proof of address (utility bill, rental agreement, etc.)

• A recent passport-size photo of the applicant and the nominee

• Income/occupation details (for certain accounts)

• E-TIN and PSR (if available)

7. What is the minimum balance requirement?

Depending on the product type, sourcing channel, and segment, savings and current accounts have different initial balance requirements.

Minimum Initial deposit balance for CASA account opening is as follows-

• Minimum initial balance: BDT 10,000 (irrespective of branch category)

• Agami & TARA Agami: BDT 2,000

• Agent banking customer: BDT 2,000

However, the following segments and account types are excluded from the initial deposit balance criteria -

• EB, Staff, Minor, FCY Accounts, Loan / Credit Card Link Accounts, eKYC Self-Mode Accounts, Bundle products (PPC 2 and above), Probashi segment.

8. How is interest calculated and paid?

Interest is usually calculated on the daily/monthly average balance and credited monthly/half-yearly, depending on the product type.

9. What is the daily withdrawal limit of the Debit Card?

Regular Customer 4,00,000 through Multicurrency Debit Card

PB Customer 5,00,000 through Multicurrency Debit Card

PB Plus Customer 8,00,000 through VISA Signature Debit Card

10. What facilities come with a deposit account?

• ATM/Debit Card

• Chequebook

• Internet banking (Astha)

• Fund transfer (local & international)

• Standing instructions (payments, EMI, etc.)

11. How can I access my deposit account?

You can access services through the ATM, mobile app (Astha), call center, or by visiting the branch.

12. Will I get a chequebook with my account?

Except for Happy Savers/TARA Happy Savers and Virtual/TARA Virtual Savings Account, customers can avail a chequebook with any other product. There will be no default chequebook option; it will be provided based on customer request.

13. Do we have insurance facilities for Deposit accounts?

Yes, Future Star, Golden Benefit, TARA Golden Benefit, Probashi Poribar, TARA Probashi Poribar, and TARA Audommo Savings Account all have an insurance facility.

14. Can I open a deposit account online?

Yes. However, KYC verification (documents, CPV, etc.) must be completed before activation.

15. When does an account become dormant?

For savings after 24 months and current after 12 months from the last customer-induced transaction.

16. How do I close my deposit (CASA) account?

Submit a closure request at the branch (with unused cheque leaves, debit card, etc.). Balance (if any) will be paid after necessary deductions.

17. What is the account closing charge?

BDT 300 for Current Account and BDT 100 for Savings Account

18. Which current account can I open?

Opening of the retail current account is discouraged. However, for SOD purposes only, a Current Plus account can be opened.

19. Which FCY accounts are available?

RDCD, ERQ Matrix Account for Freelancer, FCY Account for Non-resident Bangladeshi, Foreign National, and Mariners.

20. Who can open these FCY accounts?

21. How can I open/close FD/DPS?

FD/DPS can be opened & closed through Astha or Hard copy forms.

22. What is the minimum amount required to open an FD?

Through Astha, the minimum FD opening amount is BDT 50,000

Through Hard Copy Forms, the minimum FD opening amount is BDT 1,00,000

23. How can I encash my FD/DPS?

Through Astha up to BDT 10,00,000; Manual processing is performed as per the requirement.

24. What are the interest credit options available for Fixed Deposit?

28. Do we have insurance facilities for DPS products?

Yes, TARA Flexi DPS offers an insurance facility for DPS EMIs of 5000 and a tenure of 3 years.

29. Does a customer need to have an account with BRAC Bank to open DPS?

A link account is mandatory to open a DPS, and the installment amount will auto-transfer from the link account.

30. When will the DPS account freeze?

The DPS account will freeze automatically if any four (4) monthly installments are missing. So, customers need to maintain a sufficient balance in their accounts on the instalment due date to avoid any inconvenience.

31. Which Mode of Operation can be used to open an account?

Singly, Jointly, Either or Survivor.

32. Which channels are allowed to deposit?

Through Branch Cash Counter, CDM, RCDM, EFTN, BFTN & NPSB, Inward Remittance, etc.

33. What type of Debit Card is currently given?

VISA Local, International & Multicurrency Debit, and TakaPay Card.
